Ford Escape: Bumpers / Removal and Installation - Rear Bumper

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

All vehicles

  1. Remove the rear bumper cover.
    Refer to: Rear Bumper Cover (501-19 Bumpers, Removal and Installation).

Vehicles without trailer tow package

  1. With the help of an assistant.
    Remove the nuts and the rear bumper.
    Torque: 46 lb.ft (63 Nm)

Vehicles with trailer tow package

  1. Disconnect the trailor tow electrical connector.
  1. On both sides.
    Remove the bolts.
  1. With the help of an assistant.
    Remove the rear bumper.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Vehicles with trailer tow package

  1. With the help of an assistant, on both sides.
    Install the rear bumper and hand tighten the bolts.
  1. With the help of an assistant, on both sides.
    Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
    Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
