Ford Escape: Starting System - 1.5L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) – I3 (Y1) / Removal and Installation - Starter Motor
Removal
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).

Disconnect battery terminals.
Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

Remove the retainers and position aside the coolant hose.

Disconnect the connector.
-
Detach the wiring harness retainers and position the wiring harness aside.
-

Remove the battery terminal cap.
-
Remove the starter motor solenoid battery cable nut.
Torque:
106 lb.in (12 Nm)

Remove the starter motor solenoid wire nut.
Torque:
53 lb.in (6 Nm)

Detach the wiring harness retainers.
-
Position the wiring harness aside.
-
Remove the starter motor bracket nuts.
Torque:
97 lb.in (11 Nm)
-
Remove the starter motor studbolts, then remove the starter motor.
Torque:
35 lb.ft (47 Nm)
Installation

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Activation

Check the wear patterns on the starter drive gear and
the flywheel or flexplate ring gear...

Overview
The EATC system maintains the selected vehicle interior temperature
by heating and/or cooling the air depending on the HVAC control panel
selection.
The temperature control setting is the desired cabin air temperature.
The blower motor control override buttons vary the blower motor speed.
The driver may override the automatic mode of operation.

Remove the front scuff plate trim panel.
Refer to: Front Scuff Plate Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
