Ford Escape: Climate Control System - General Information / Removal and Installation - Climate Control Housing

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1. Remove the instrument panel.
    Refer to: Instrument Panel (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).

  1. Release the clips and remove the LH trim panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  1. Release the clips and remove the trim panel.

  1. Remove the bolts, release the clips and remove the center instrument panel trim panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  1. Remove the bolts, release the clips and remove the center instrument panel trim panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  1. Remove the bolts and the center HVAC register.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
  1. Release the clips and remove the lower finish panel.

  1. Remove the bolts, release the clips and remove the lower trim panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.
      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors, separate the wiring guides and position the harness aside.
  1. Remove the screws and the ACM .
    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
  1. Remove the screws and position APIM the down.
    Torque: 27 lb.in (3 Nm)
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the APIM and bracket.
  1. Remove the bolts.
    Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    1. Release the stop and fully lower the glove compartment.
    1. Remove the glove compartment check strap.
  1. Lift the glove compartment off the hinges and remove.
  1. Remove the bolt, disconnect the electrical connector.
    Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors, release the harness retainers, and position aside the harness.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector, release the harness retaines, and position aside the harness.
  1. Remove the bolt, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the TCU and bracket as an assembly.
    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the screws and the TCU .
    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors, release the harness retainer, and position aside the harness.
  1. Remove the bolts and the climate control housing.
    Torque: 27 lb.in (3 Nm)

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
