Ford Escape: Body Closures / General Procedures - Front Door Alignment

Interior Trim Remover

Inspection

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

  1. Inspect the front door-to-body dimensions.

Adjustment

All alignments

  1. Open the door.
  1. Remove the bolts and the striker assembly.

Front door in and out, up and down alignment

  1. Loosen the bolts to permit movement of the door.
    Loosen:
       :   2 turn(s)
  1. Adjust door to specification.
    Refer to: Body and Frame (501-26 Body Repairs - Vehicle Specific Information and Tolerance Checks, Description and Operation).
  1. Tighten the bolts.
    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

Front door fore, aft and tilt alignment

  1. On driver side.
    Release the clips and remove the LH instrument panel end cap.
    Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
  1. On driver side.
    Release the clips and remove the LH instrument panel end cap.
  1. On driver side.
    1.Release the clips and remove the LH trim panel. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  1. On passenger side.
    Position the front door weatherstrip aside, release the clips and remove the instrument finish panel.
    Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
  1. On passenger side.
    Release the clips and remove the RH instrument panel end cap.
  1. On passenger side.
    1. Release the stop and fully lower the glove compartment.
    1. Remove the glove compartment check strap.
  1. On passenger side.
    Lift the glove compartment off the hinges remove.
  1. NOTE: Driver side shown, passenger side similar.

    • Loosen the bolts to permit movement of the door.
      Loosen:
         :   2 turn(s)
    • Loosen the nut and washer to permit movement of the door.
      Loosen:
         :   2 turn(s)
  1. Carefully close the door.
  1. Adjust the door as required.
  1. Carefully open the door.
    1. Tighten the fastener.
      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
    1. Tighten the fasteners.
      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

All alignments

  1. Install the striker assembly.
  1. Loosen the bolts to permit movement of the striker assembly.
    Loosen:
       :   2 turn(s)
  1. Tighten the fasteners.
    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
  1. Inspect the body-to-front door dimensions.
